How to Choose the Right Website Design and Development Company for Your Business

A practical checklist for comparing web design and development companies, so you can choose with confidence instead of crossing your fingers.

Choosing a web partner is a big decision. Your website will represent your business for years. Here's a simple checklist to compare your options fairly.

Experience and portfolio

• Have they built sites similar in size and complexity to yours?
• Do they have experience in your industry?
• Can they show results, not just pretty designs?

Skills under one roof

A website needs design, development, content, SEO and hosting. An agency that handles all of these saves you from managing several vendors.

Technology choices

Ask why they recommend a particular platform. The answer should be about your needs, not their habits.

Process and communication

• Is there a clear, written process with milestones?
• Will you have a dedicated contact person?
• How often will you get updates?

Pricing transparency

You should receive a detailed proposal listing what's included, what's not and what things cost later.

Ownership and security

Make sure you'll own the domain, code and content, and ask how they keep sites secure.

Support after launch

Check the free support period and the cost of ongoing maintenance.
