How to Optimise Online Forms for Better UX and More Leads
Your enquiry form is where interest turns into a lead, or where it quietly dies. Small changes can make a big difference to how many people complete it.
You've done the hard work of getting someone to your website and convincing them to get in touch. Then they hit a long, confusing form and give up. It happens far more often than most businesses realise.
Ask for less
Every extra field reduces the number of people who finish. Ask only for what you genuinely need to follow up: usually name, phone, email and what they're interested in. You can ask the rest on the call.
Use dropdowns for common choices
A "Service you need" dropdown is faster than typing and gives your sales team better information.
Make it mobile-friendly
Use the right keyboard for each field (numeric for phone, email keyboard for email), big tap targets and a single column on small screens.
Write a better button
"Submit" is dull. "Get my free quote" or "Send enquiry" tells people what happens next.
Show clear errors
Highlight exactly which field needs fixing and why, and never clear the whole form because of one mistake.
Confirm and set expectations
After submission, say thank you and tell people when you'll get back to them. Offering a WhatsApp link for faster replies works brilliantly in India.
Place forms where decisions happen
Put a short form on service pages, not just on the contact page. A sticky "Enquire now" button helps too.
Protect against spam without annoying people
Invisible honeypot fields and server-side checks stop most bots without making humans solve puzzles.
Measure it
Track form submissions as conversions in Google Analytics so you can see which pages and campaigns bring leads.
